The first phase of AWC was defined by establishing credible scrap operations in Dammam — intake behind the 2nd Industrial Area, assessment and sorting capability for ferrous and non-ferrous streams, and settlement practices that generators could trust. MS steel, copper, nickel, aluminum, and plastic scrap each demanded distinct handling knowledge, and we invested in supervisors and yard discipline rather than volume claims we could not substantiate.

Steel capability followed client demand. Through steel plant tie-ups, AWC began supplying billets in 130x130x12m and 150x150x12m dimensions and rebars to ASTM and BS specifications — extending our role from material recovery to construction supply. Product range grew to include coils, plates, beams, channels, angles, and reused structural steel where sourcing aligned with client programmes and quality expectations.

Contracting and logistics services developed as a natural extension. Site preparation, demolition and dismantling, steel structure works, industrial logistics, and material handling allowed clients to coordinate physical works with the same organisation handling scrap offtake or steel orders. Growth was never pursued for its own sake — each capability solved a problem clients were already asking us to address.

Along the way we learned that scale without standards creates liability. Adding processing capacity meant replicating assessment and documentation procedures, not only acquiring equipment. Entering contracting meant submitting safety and method plans consistent with our yard operations — because the same clients and regulators evaluate both.
